Overlooking splendid Coral Bay

Private, Affordable House

Coral Bay is the "quiet end of the quiet island" of St John. The Outlook is nestled in the hillside 200 yards above the bay -- close enough to walk to the local village and far enough to be a quiet retreat. Enjoy your time on the deck, in the garden, or exploring the island. The spectacular north shore beaches and the wild Salt Pond Bay are just a short drive away. Coral Bay restaurants and shopping are within walking distance. Internet access is available at the house.

Like many homes on St. John, The Outlook was built with a main level (“the upstairs”) and a separate guest apartment (“the downstairs”). Because of this, we are able to offer two comfortable and carefully appointed suites, which can be rented individually or together. From July 15 through November 15, we offer a special honeymoon package, the entire house at a reduced rate.

The Outlook at Coral Bay has the view you came to St John for. The sun rises over Norman's Island in the BVI's and sweeps over the house into the mountains behind. There is usually a comfortable breeze that keeps the house cool. Wide, sliding doors frame the harbor yet the house is private and quiet.

Two large decks overlook the harbor and there is a shady terrace and barbeque area on one side. From the decks, you can see boats traversing the harbor, catch the rising sun, and enjoy the afternoon shade while looking at the lush US and British Virgin Islands - Norman Island, Hurricane Hole - in the near distance.

The house is surrounded by lush gardens with bouganvillea, jasmine, and oleander. The weather in St John nears 80 in the daytime and is cooler at night. In winter, there is a steady tradewind breeze. We cook out on the grills, bake on the stove or go to nearby restaurants. Cruz Bay is about 1/2 an hour away by car, and there are stops along the way. Maho Bay is one of our favorite beaches.

The open upstairs living area is a 15x30 great room, with a TV, DVD, VCR and stereo. There is a dining space and a modern, fully equipped kitchen. Upstairs includes a king-bed master bedroom with bathroom and outdoor shower. The second bedroom has a double bed, private toilet room and sink.

The morning sun will shine over your breakfast, you can tan yourself on the deck into late afternoon, and in the evening, look back at the mountains to the left. There is usually a comfortable, cooling breeze. Be sure to wake up at least once to see the sunrise over Norman's Island.

Downstairs has a 10x30 open area, one bedroom with queen bed, and a bath with stall shower. The living room has a new TV/DVD and furniture. It's a restful spot from which to enjoy the evening, read a book, or plan the day's adventures in the National Park. The kitchen is equipped with a new refrigerator, a stove with oven and broiler, a new microwave, toaster and coffeemaker, and a fresh set of dishes and utensils.
